Yep, nothing better than armchair safe critics. It's clearly better than some options and not as good as others, for a reason. This should be about whether it offers value. This shouldn't be about why this isn't the best safe. The way some people are opining on this safe it's as though it's better not to waste the money, just remove the bolt, ammo in a locked ammo box and job done. I'll maybe have a few thousand in guns plus ammo. Maybe more discrete, this safe is otherwise a healthy step up. This safe is a healthy step up.Īnother guy I know has his in a locked job box. I hear enough of why not this one but no suggestions of meaningful alternatives (balanced relatively on price/features).Ī guy I know keeps his long guns in soft bags with trigger locks. This in my opinion, if correct since pictures don't clearly show, is a major vulnerability in my opinion. Furthermore, comparing a 700kg (1550lb) safe to a 400lb safe isn't really a valid comparison as to the strength of this particular model as his safe was likely RSC rated given the weight.īack to this particular safe, while it's good that it has 3 retractable locking bolts going horizontally (and presumably also some static ones hinge side), it does not appear to have any vertical bolts top and bottom therefore making this very susceptible to a prybar attack. The Mike Hargreaves case (which also involved falsification of records) and being good enough for the authorities is an entirely different story than what I'm talking about. Any safe is good enough to keep stupid teenagers from finger poking the bang sticks. No safe is good enough in the eyes of the police. When the theft was discovered, the police charged Mike for unsafe storage. Thieves spent a weekend in his house using power tools to break into his concrete safe. He's a firearms instructor who was way on vacation. It would be a good idea to store ammo separately, just in case.įor comparison to a burglary rated safe, a similar sized UL RSC (residential security container) safe will be in the 800-1500+lb range and a TL-15 (ie 15 minutes of tool protection) rated safe would be in the 2500+lb range. This is good for those only looking to meet minimum requirements and not much more, and certainly not for those looking to protect a prized collection. The lazy and rushed criminals you're protecting relatively inexpensive level firearms from - tbh, two people with a crowbar and sledge hammer will likely get you in to this in a few minutes.
